Flying the Flag for Independent Advocacy
Summer 2015
In collaboration with Art In Mind, we designed, printed and displayed a series of flags on the flagpoles of CalMac’s ferry Ardrossan to Brodick route.
The project sprung from a visual discussion on differing viewpoints on independent advocacy, through pinhole-photography, collage and printmaking workshops. These workshops ran both on Arran and the Mainland. The underlying aim was to raise public awareness of different viewpoints of independent advocacy and it’s impact on people’s lives.
In addition to the public flag display in partnership with CalMac ferries, there as also a projection-based exhibition of the project at the Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine as part of a wider involvement event for Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival. Alongside this, an exhibition bus with a photographic display toured North Ayrshire and Arran.
AIMS Advocacy would like to thank CalMac for helping us literally fly the flag for independent advocacy in North Ayrshire.
